PVDF-Plus is a naturally hydrophobic, unsupported polyvinylidene fluoride transfer membrane designed to immobilize proteins, deliver the highest binding capacity, and resolve more protein bands from samples with low backgrounds in a wide range of molecular weights (especially in the low molecular weight range), from 5K Daltons to 700K Daltons. Exceptional quality control in pore size allows for a detection limit of 0.005mg/cm2 of trace protein, selectively detecting the protein of interest for analysis. Better quality control eliminates "lot-to-lot" variation with minimal "bald spot" and "blow-through" problems. Protein can be electroblotted from variety of gel matrices onto PVDF-Plus.
Applications: Since protein does not pass through PVDF-Plus, this membrane is excellent for western blotting (transfers) from a SDS-Page gel, amino acid analysis, protein dot-blotting, protein sequencing from Western Blot, peptide mapping, transfer of proteins from an Acid/Urean gel, transfer of high molecular weight proteins from non-denaturing gels, and chemiluminescent detection methods.
PVDF-Plus is mechanically and chemically stronger than nitrocellulose allowing for better and easier handling and manipulation, and multiple re-probings without added electrophoretic runs. PVDF-Plus also provides hydrophobic 'pockets' for denatured protein binding. PVDF-Plus binds protein more tightly and has a higher binding affinity than nitrocellulose, up to a two fold higher capacity (125µg/cm2 average for larger globular proteins such as immunoglobulins and higher binding capacities for small peptides).
The chemical compatibility of PVDF-Plus allows it s use with all the commonly used stains including Amido Black, Colloidal Gold, Coomassie Blue, India Ink, and Porceau-S. PVDF-Plus will not degrade, distort or shrink while wetting prior to protein immobilization or destaining with high concentrations of absolute methyl alcohol (methanol). PVDF-Plus resists curling and tearing.
