Universal Pre-enrichment Broth is non-selective medium used for the recovery of Salmonella and Listeria from food products. With traditional methods requiring different pre-enrichments for each microorganism, Universal Pre-enrichment Broth was formulated by Bailey and Cox for the recovery of sublethally injured strains of both Listeria and Salmonella from a single food product specimen. The medium is well buffered, containing sodium and potassium phosphates, which allows the recovery of pH sensitive bacteria.
